The goal of the "5D BIM in municipal road design" project was to program a configurator to automate road design. In order to achieve this, students of the Construction Project Management Bachelor's degree programme digitised a municipal road project: Antonstraße in the centre of Sigmaringen. The students used card_1 to model the road and the thinkproject solution DESITE BIM to integrate times and costs. With their work, the project team not only demonstrated that BIM-based infrastructure design is possible, but also showed what a prototype for a partially automated modelling process in road design could look like. This video provides a detailed look at the project‘s individual work steps.
A total of 15 competition entries from 37 students were submitted for the BIM Award. With their project, this project team was able to prevail against 5 other finalists. The award ceremony was held on 25 January 2021 by State Transport Minister Winfried Hermann as part of a digital online event.
