Everything is easy from the get go: achieve your goals quickly with the graphically interactive tools for designing alignments and vertical alignments. And particularly exciting: when designing with existing structures, alignments can be calculated automatically using point data. Vertical alignment approximation is available for surface elevation optimisation. In addition to the automatic calculation of vertical alignments, it’s easy to optimise existing infrastructure with the comprehensive range of tools we provide.
Routes can be designed using the conventional method of high-performance cross-section development. Alternatively, you can use the new card_1 Road Design: a set of pioneering tools based on smart infra-modeling technology with which traffic routes can be parameterised and designed in a largely automated manner in accordance with guidelines.

Benefit from a new way of working which allows you to create and work directly with a 3D model. Changes to individual parameters trigger an automatic update, so that your model is always up to date. This is made possible by the intelligent so-called tech-objects. Tech-objects in card_1 enable the representation of structures in a high-quality, optimally structured project model. This simplifies and speeds up the design process. And with the journal, you can easily keep track of everything: all information relating to the model is presented here in a clear manner.
To ensure that there are no gaps in the model during the design phases, you can design bridges with the Bridge Generator module: bridge structures can be generated dynamically and parameterized while designing the route.
The universal tool: ConKit.
The term ConKit, short for Construction Kit, is not a simple "construction kit" in card_1, but above all a new way of working. In the future this tool will be the starting point from which you will be able to construct everything that you cannot create simply and in a controlled manner with just a few parameters using our powerful generators. In the field of road design, these include, for example:
- Roadsides in situations where the standard solutions with embankments or cut slopes are not sufficient.
- Roadsides in intersections with special solutions for slopes, footpaths, cycle paths and other details.
- Redesigning the local open drainage and agricultural paths.
- Special landscaping for junctions.
- The connection between the route structures generated to any shaped bridges or other engineering structures.
- Lanes, parking spaces, footpaths, green spaces and anything else needed for carparks and rest areas.
- Special road markings.
- Flexibly designed noise barriers.
Of course, creating a 3D model is not only useful for editing. Visualisations are increasingly required in the early planning phases. This is no problem with card_1. Your model can also be equipped with 3D symbols that ensure a realistic representation. The extensive symbol library offers you an enormous selection of traffic signs, furniture, vegetation and other highlights. Good to know: you can also easily import your own symbols and add them to your model. Besides visualisation, the specialist model generated by card_1 also meets the requirements for a BIM-compliant working method. This makes you perfectly positioned for the future. The IFC and CPIXML exchange formats as well as issue management with the BCF format are also available for this.
card_1 also offers load class calculations according to the German guidelines RStO including printouts with a default layout. You can run required and existing sight distance checks and carry out a driving simulation using your model. The verification of swept turning paths is achieved using various calculation methods based on RBSV vehicles, special vehicles or old guidelines.
For approval planning, design catalogs can be created, issued and managed in accordance with RE 2012, including automatic number tracking in forms and drawings as well as drawing creation and adaptation.
A key factor in the planning of transport infrastructure is land acquisition. With card_1 you can log and manage land acquisition data and create RE-compliant directories and plans. With the automated functions for determining acquisition areas, attribution, numbering and area calculation, you are well equipped for these tasks.
As soon as the designs are complete, quantities must be determined and the resulting costs calculated. This is easy in card_1 system. You can transfer the REB-compliant bill of quantities directly to the AKVS/elKe Costs module, where you can complete cost calculations in accordance with the guidelines and output them in forms.
3D models may be beautiful, but outputting designs is still part of a planning office’s daily routine. Luckily, the effort required for RE-compliant drawing output is minimal. Using our templates, plans can be created quickly and easily and can be supplemented with our own drawing editing tools. You can export your drawings as DWG/DXF or import third-party drawing components in the same format. Exchanging project data is a vital part of professional road design. The OKSTRA format is still the first choice for this and is fully supported by card_1 both when importing and exporting data.
