card_1 Backup

card_1 Backup to backup your project data is automatically installed as part of the regular card_1 installation.

A subfolder named \BACKUP is created in the card_1 program folder. The backup program is installed in this folder. Additionally, an executable backup configuration file is created. This file is created as a shortcut in the card_1 shortcut folder and can be started directly.

card_1 Backup can be run on any operating system with a Java Runtime Environment (JRE). Java is a registered trademark of the company Oracle.

Oracle has changed the Java licence and support model as of 01.02.2019, so that commercial use of Java now requires an Oracle subscription. This means that you will have to get a licence from Oracle if you wish to receive current updates for Java 8 or install the latest Java version. After getting such a licence, you will be able to use card_1 Backup as usual.

However, with OpenJDK, Oracle offers a runtime environment whose commercial use remains free of charge in combination with CPE. There are only a few restrictions with regard to the scope of functions. However, commercial support is not available for OpenJDK. In addition, in contrast to the paid version, OpenJDK versions are not maintained over long period of time which may require additional effort and charges for software administration.

Our tests have shown that card_1 Backup is runnable under OpenJDK runtime environment. This way, a cost-free solution is available for the card_1 Backup process.

NOTE  Please note that we do not always recommend switching to Oracle OpenJDK. On the other hand, if you need Oracle JDK which is subject to licencing for other products, then this might be the better solution as this will allow you to use card_1 Backup.
